LCD vs DLP Projector, Confused ? Which one should you buy in 2018 ?. Lets try to understand both the technology in a simple easy to understand format to help you make an informed purchase.

LCD PROJECTOR

Most LCD Projector or 3 LCD Projectors have three stationery RGB (red, green and blue) panels. The light from the projector lamp is directed at the panels. The pixels in each panel regulate the amount of light passing through them therefore LCD technology is also referred as transmissive technology. After exiting the LCD panels the color beams are converged by a glass prism and projected onto a screen by a lens assembly.

Major projector brands using LCD technology : Epson, Sony, Panasonic, Hitachi, NEC, Sharp etc.

DLP PROJECTOR

Most DLP Projector or Single Chip DLP Projectors have spinning RGB (red, green and blue) wheel. The light from the projector lamp is directed at the spinning color wheel. The wheel converts the while light into a sequence of red, green and blue beams.  These beams are reflected from a DMD Chip (Digital Micromirror Device) which contains hundreds of thousands of tiny mirrors therefore DLP technology is also referred as reflective technology. These mirrors control the brightness of the pixels and also synchronizes red, green, or blue color which is then projected onto a screen by a lens assembly.

Major projector brands using DLP technology : Benq, Optoma, Viewsonic, Infocus, Vivitek, Dell etc.
